The Arts are Alive in Lancaster City!

Downtown! and interested arts-related stakeholders have
created an exciting initative - LancasterARTS. LancasterARTS now has its own website, logo and all art events are linked to the Pa. Dutch Convention Visitor Bureau's website event calendar..
We see LancasterARTS attracting people to the city
for a unique experience that celebrates Lancaster's artistic
spirit and enlivens the streetscape bringing an enhanced
sense of vitality and safety to the community. All
throughout the development of this initiative, community
involvement has been encouraged and appreciated.
The
LDR Plan outlines seventeen strategies for revitalization,
one of which is a "heritage, arts, and cultural district".
It identifies the following goal for the revitalization
of Lancaster City:
"Create a heritage, arts and cultural
district to create the opportunities for public and private
investment. The district will include supporting retail,
restaurant and gallery uses; it will be identified through
special signage and streetscape treatment."
The report also describes the economic justification for such a district, "Heritage, arts and culture are at the core of why cities exist. More and more cities are recognizing the importance of heritage, arts and culture, not only to the quality of life, but also in enhancing their image and attracting economic development."
